Hedi Slimane Officially Exits Saint Laurent

Fashion

The fashion feeds have been constantly abuzz with rumors about Hedi Slimane’s impending departure from his creative director role at Saint Laurent. The designer has been shutting the rumor down, but yesterday everything took a turn for the worst – Slimane made his announcement of resignation from his role at Saint Laurent, on April Fool’s Day no less. The news is shocking in and of itself, albeit expected, but the real wave of panic will likely hit on April 2, when the truth sets in that this was no elaborate prank to commemorate the international jokers’ holiday.

Hedi Slimane Officially Exits Saint Laurent

Slimane has had a tremendous career with Saint Laurent, beginning in 2012, and he has since performed a total overhaul of the brand, rebranding the aesthetic and creating a truly beautiful series of collections with his time there. But the rebranding began with a change to the name, shortening the “Yves Saint Laurent” label to not include the first name of the iconic designer. His final work, which we have absolutely loved, can now be looked at as his farewell campaign.

Slimane’s final departure gift to fashion followers everywhere must have been his casting of Cara Delevingne, who renounced her model career last August, and Jane Birkin. It makes a great deal more sense for him to have completed that maneuver, especially since the two had been known as such a dynamic pairing in the fashion industry. For his groundbreaking work as a part of the luxury label, he will be sorely missed.

“I am very grateful to Hedi Slimane, and the whole Yves Saint Laurent team, for having set the path that the house has successfully embraced, and which will grant longevity to this legendary brand,” said Chairman and CEO of Kering François-Henri Pinault.

Not one to skip out on poetics, he continued by describing Slimane’s announcement of departure as “the end of a four-year mission, which has led to the complete repositioning of the brand,” which was “an undisputed success.”

The success, as mentioned before, resulted in a great many new innovations relating to the label and its image. The clothes were reconfigured, as were the stores in which they are sold. Everything still carries the luxurious Yves Saint Laurent essence, but the rebranding has created a multitude of new opportunities for modern and younger women to connect with the label, and to have a wonderful experience when interacting with the brand. Essentially, he was able to youthen up the collections and ad campaigns to connect with a broader audience in terms of demographics. He brought rock ‘n’ roll, he brought grunge, and he brought a whole lot of revenue because of his innovative outlook on the fashion industry. His accessories exploded when they hit the market, contributing most to the revenue brought in.

In other words, whoever is tasked with replacing Hedi Slimane as the creative director of Saint Laurent has enormous shoes to fill. There is no word yet as to who his successor will be, but the rumor mill suggests the position might go to Anthony Vaccarello, as it has ever since speculations arose of Slimane’s resignation. Other rumors suggest that Slimane will end up as creative director at Chanel, due to his close relationship with Karl Lagerfeld. Unfortunately, even after this bombshell, we are back where we began: with nothing but rumors.

LAURA'S FAVORITE MAKEUP PICKS

Fashion

Laura's makeup favorites! (click through for links)

Each morning I wake uuuuuup, before I put on my makeuuuuuup...anyone else picturing the dinner karaoke scene from My Best Friend's Wedding? Love that part. Anyway, today I'm going to share with you a few of my favorite makeup products! There are a few that I have been using for years and others that are relatively new, but I think that's a good sign that hopefully means I'm not stuck in the same routine and my face is so "2000 and late" if you get my drift. Ready for all the deets?

First things first—foundation! I have a two pronged approach that I do with foundation depending on how much time I have. If I'm in a rush, I'll dab this liquid concealer under my eyes and on my chin and blend in with my fingers. Once it's dry, I use a large bronzer brush and do a few quick strokes of this bronzer (in Laguna) to contour and fight off looking ill in the winter. I'm not one of those lovely alabaster pale-skinned people... I just look like I have the flu.

If I'm doing photos or going out for the night, I'll spend a little more time and use my bareMinerals foundation kit on top of the liquid concealer. It has a foundation shade and a bronzer, and it provides a lot more coverage to even out my skin tone without looking heavy or cakey.

Mmmm kay. Let's talk eyebrows. If you look at a photo of me that is taken before 2012, you'll notice something very obvious about my face—I have no eyebrows. It's not the tale of high school over plucking mistakes like some of my friends have, they are just so light in color (and rather patchy) that they just don't make much of a statement. Once I realized that eyebrow pencils and fillers are not just for old ladies, I've been hooked ever since. In fact, If I could only do one thing to my face in the morning, it would be my brows because it really does make that big of a difference. I use the brown side of this double-sided brow pencil to outline the general brow shape, and then use an angled brush to fill in the shape with the lighter shade of this brow kit. The brow kit also has a brow wax you can put down first before the color to help it stay better, but the shadow seems to stay well enough on its own, so I skip that part.

Once I have the shape and color filled in, I take a clean mascara wand and comb through the brows in short strokes. I find that doing this helps the brows to look a little more natural and soft and less perfectly outlined. Once all that is done, I use the light beige side of the double-sided pencil and outline the bottom edge of the eyebrow. This really defines your eyebrow and highlights your brow bone. It's amazing!!

Eye know what we should talk about next! So, I have a few time-tested favorites here like my go-to pencil liner and liquid liner that I've used for years, but I've also started using this volumizing mascara recently, and I like it a lot. Since I have small hooded eyes, I've been doing a darker color just in the crease to make my eyes look more open, but I wanted to find a way to keep that dark shade in the crease and not have it spread out as the day progresses. I found out that what I needed was an eyeshadow primer before I used this darker loose pigment shade in the crease, and it works like a charm!

Last but not least, it's lipstick! I used to be a lip gloss only girl into my mid-twenties, but eventually I got tired of the goopy feeling (and my hair always blowing into my sticky lip gloss) and switched to lipstick. Not a gloss in sight these days! My favorite lipstick for any occasion, day or night, is this lipstick (in Pout). I saw the color in the store and thought that it looked exactly like the color that Audrey Hepburn applies in the back of the taxi at the end of Breakfast at Tiffany's. You know, the part where she says, "A girl can't read that sort of thing without her lipstick." Thankfully I actually loved the shade and it's always in my purse. I also have been getting into more mauve shades lately, and this lipstick (in Fly High) is a great everyday one too. If you are a girl that has to have a matching liner, then I would suggest trying a few colors at ColourPop. I like to use those when I do a brighter shade so I can line the lips as well to reduce color bleed.

(From top to bottom: Smashbox Pout, ColourPop Heart On, ColourPop Pony, ColourPop Bossy, Colour Pop Scandy, bareMinerals Fly High). I guess all my lipsticks are in the "cool" family, huh? That explains why all those orangey shades look so terrible on me...

You may have noticed that there are a few more natural makeup choices in the mix (like the Mineral Fusion liquid concealer and mascara). I have been trying to get more and more products that I like that are free of a lot of the toxins added to most makeup, but it's a slow process to find replacements that you really like for everything you use (and expensive to do it all at once!). So far I've switched out my skin cleaning routine and nail polish with better choices, but I'm still working on my makeup options. Let me know if you have a recommendation for any clean makeup items you like!

I actually don't wear much makeup (if any) a lot of days, especially if I'm just working around the house, but I really do enjoy putting on some tunes and taking my time getting beautified when I have the option. Just don't put on "Hotline Bling" when trying to apply liquid liner. You will dance. It will not be a straight line. Hope my list gave you some new favorites to try! xo. Laura

How to Spot Fake Louis Vuitton Speedy

Louis Vuitton

As incredible as it may sound, spotting a fake Luis Vuitton bag is not an easy task. Nowadays, replica manufacturers have perfected their designs so well that it is almost impossible to differentiate a well-made fake from the original product. Still, there are some guidelines that one should follow when trying to assess the authenticity of an LV Speedy.

The most important thing is to know its parts. What type of lining should it have? Should it have feet or not? How should the base be? Is it a model with a d-ring inside? Where the d-ring should be positioned? What codes and markings should it have? Where? All these details matter and it will help you determine if the bag is original or not. So check out the Louis Vuitton website and gather all this information about the model you are interested in, also search the web for any relevant piece of information you may find about it and start comparing. Additionally, I will present below a series of general guidelines you will need to know about the Luis Vuitton Speedy.

I will start with the particularities of its lining. The insides of a Monogram Speedy bag are always a little bit tricky and here’s why. The original bag has a brown cotton canvas, but on replicas you will find many variations for this very simple and common brown cotton canvas lining. Do not be fooled by a brown suede lining. LV has never used this type of lining on its Speedy Monogram models, not even on the vintage ones. There is indeed a fabric called Alcantara that resembles a lot to suede, but it isn’t actually suede and its specific color is a grey mushroom color. It isn’t available in dark brown.  A Monogram Speedy must have a brown cotton canvas lining regardless of its manufacturing year. Any other kind of lining means it isn’t real.

LV Speedy 13

Even the stitching is important. Louis Vuitton is very careful about this very small detail. An original bag will have even and regular stitching. Similar locations on a bag should have an identical stitching pattern. For example, on a Speedy the leather tab where the handles attach onto the bag should have 5 identical and even stitches.

LV Speedy 3

The font used to write LOUIS VUITTON PARIS and the codes on the leather patches or tags is a very specific font. The use of a different looking one shows that the item is a fake. Original LV products have a very round “O”; the two letters “T” don’t touch in the word “VUITTON”; and the “N”, “A” and “V” are quite pointy. Regardless, where these words are stamped, these need to look clean and clear without any smudges or surfaces that have a lower legibility.

Literally, Louis Vuitton has put his name on every important part of its bags and the hardware is no exception. Any metal clasps, buttons, zippers, plates or locks will have a number or the Louis Vuitton name printed on it. Original bags use brass or gold metal, but low quality replicas have these parts made out of plastic with a layer of gold paint over it.

If your bag says made in USA, Spain, Germany or Italy, this doesn’t mean that it’s a replica. Indeed, the origins of Louis Vuitton are in France, but for over 25 years it has also been manufacturing products in USA, Spain, Germany and Italy.

And last, but not least Louis Vuitton Speedy bags are very expensive products and everything about it needs to feel of very good quality. No part of such a purse is allowed to feel cheap or to be made from a plastic material. It must be made from high quality fabrics and to feel nice and refined. Consider all the above when you are assessing the authenticity of a bag or even when you are looking to buy a good quality replica Speedy and you simply can’t go wrong.
