Fashion

zoe_kravitz_gettyimages-522614264__larry_busacca__2__hoch

Met Gala 2016: Madonna's Givenchy look is inspired by "kinesiology tape"

Fashion

Madonna in Givenchy at the Met Gala

Madonna is never afraid of wearing something daring on the red carpet, and at this year's Met Gala she took the sheer dressing trend to the next level in a black lace Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci gown with no underwear on underneath. But it turns out this gothic look is surprisingly inspired by a practical item you'll often spot athletes wearing at the Olympics: therapeutic kinesiology tape.

Madonna walked the red carpet with the house's creative director Riccardo Tisci, who created her custom black lace look which she says was "inspired by the therapeutic kinesiology tape that she wears for her fatigued muscles on tour." This is the tape, which usually comes in bright colours, that athletes wear to enhance performance and reduce injuries. More Rio 2016 than Met Gala 2016.

Madonna wore black lace tights and a body, with straps of black material winding around her legs and arms resembling kinesiology tape. She might be wearing a floor-length skirt, but there is fabric missing over her breasts and derriere, so the look leaves very little to the imagination. Madonna said to E! on the red carpet that there was one downside to wearing so little fabric - it makes it "hard to pee." As for her jewellery, she wore stacked rings by Lynn Ban, a cross body chain and a necklace by Neil Lane.

This isn't the first time the singer has collaborated with Givenchy for the Met Gala, as in 2013 she also went pantless in custom Riccardo Tisci. The designer created a fishnet body stocking and tartan jacket for the punk-themed event.

Grace Coddington shares her beauty routine, story of her first kiss
Grace Coddington spills the beans on her typical beauty routine for ITG's "Top Shelf." Our favorite part, though, is when Coddington shares the story of her first kiss. "I put this lipstick on, and my boyfriend arrived at the door, and I got my first kiss. And I fainted! I was so working myself up for it that... I mean I didn't completely go unconscious, but weak at the knees. I felt that was fainting. But lipstick did the trick for me, obviously!" Aww. {Into the Gloss}

The real cost of catering to celebrities at the Met Gala
The Met Gala brings in donations of around $11 million every year to fund the Costume Institute, and in 2013, gross receipts were $11.9 million. That year, the Met Ball made $119,500 after the museum's contributions were deducted. The cost of putting together the event? $3.2 million. {Showbiz 411}

The two also talk about the purpose and importance of fashion shows. {WWD}

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the brand and Tomas Maier's 15th anniversary as creative director, Bottega Veneta will present its men's and women's collections together for spring 2017. Yolanda Hadid responds to Rebecca Romijn
In case you missed it, Rebecca Romijn recently suggested that Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid were "not true supermodels." This clearly didn't sit well with Hadid's mom, Yolanda Hadid, who took to Twitter to defend the girls on Friday. Said Hadid: "Kind, hardworking and they accomplished more at half your age in the fashion industry." (Ouch.) Earlier that week, Romijn tweeted: "hey @kendalljenner @gigihadid don't believe the #clickbait. Never talked smack about you. Both amazing & beautiful." {Grazia}

Olympia Le-Tan and Uniqlo Collaborate on Limited-Edition T-Shirts and Totes

Fashion

Whenever Uniqlo collaborates with other labels, we instantly know things are about to hit big. News that the Japanese giant was about to team up with Olympia Le-Tanhit the headlines last December, leaving everybody thrilled and in anticipation. The duo has just joined forces to collaborate on a limited-edition line of t-shirts and totes, which, besides pleasing us with some unique designs, utilizes the skills of displaced women in Malaysia and Afghanistan and is tied in with UNHCR, i.e. the U.N.’s refugee agency. All the pieces retail for circa 15 euros, about $16 depending on the exchange rates, and the full proceeds from the tote sales, as well as a part of the proceeds from the sales of the t-shirt, will be directly donated to UNHRC.

Olympia Le-Tan x Uniqlo 2016 Collection

The Uniqlo x Olympia Le-Tan 2016 collaboration not only raises money for the cause, but supports those women in building careers too, injecting a much-needed confidence in their working skills and, in return, helping them be more independent. Uniqlo and Olympia Le-Tan aimed at highlighting those women’s expertise and raising their spirits (women from Afghanistan and Malaysia are usually not encouraged to seek a career and more generally speak about being independent). Buying one of the Uniqlo x Olympia Le-Tan staples means thus both adding a unique, one-of-a-kind product to your wardrobe, and at the same time also enjoying a sort of humanitarian dimension that, too often, is left behind in the path of our lives due to our strict schedules and overwhelmingly busy days. It might not necessarily change our lives, but it might change theirs.

“We first starting working on T-shirts and then someone who specifically works in that division at Uniqlo asked me to participate in the program. I asked for it to support women specifically and selected a few geographical regions that are good with embroidery,” Le-Tan declared in the interview with WWD.

Already available in Japan, the capsule collection was released exclusively at Colette in Paris on Monday, and will be internationally distributed starting from next Monday. The collection consists of eight t-shirts inspired by Le-Tan’s iconic patterns, both screen-printed and embroidered, and a single tote bag that will be distributed in only 2,000 pieces worldwide.

Olympia Le-Tan x Uniqlo 2016 Collection

The tote, which will definitely go sold-out very soon, clearly pays homage to Le-Tan’s signature embroidered milk carton bag, while a very limited-edition key chain memento incorporates an ‘OLT’ logo patch specifically crafted by the displaced women. It is also very interesting to point out that, in the beginning both the tote and the key chain weren’t included in the plan.

“When [the collaboration] first came out in Japan, I kept seeing young girls posting pictures on Instagram and thought it would be nice for them to have the bag to match,” Le-Tan continued, explaining that, with the little time they had, they did what they managed according to the women’s skills.

As for the t-shirts, their oversized cuts, iconic patterns and bold colors will surely give many of you something to add to this summer’s shopping wish list.
